The problem with listening, of course, is that we don’t. There’s too much noise going on in our heads, so we never hear anything. The inner conversation simply never stops. It can be our voice or whatever voices we want to supply, but it’s a constant racket. In the same way we don’t see, and in the same way we don’t feel, we don’t touch, we don’t taste.

Love the illustration to go with your thoughts...and I'm interested that we now live in a culture with a genre of music called noise! I'm finding that the noise in my head is diminishing, that my rich inner life is of a different sort, and that I am often able to listen in ways I didn't before. I am glad of this!
Hi Kathleen. The cartoon glyph of Glass playing piano is wonderful. I think I had more problems with inner dialogue when I was younger. It seems to be going quieter with age. Maybe this is why my teen son doesn't always listen.
