When I was a kid, walking the railroad tracks, I found it was easier to keep my balance if I didn't try. Somehow it occurred to me that the mind probably worked the same way. Then, of course, they sent me to school...

I know what you mean. It's a shame that, as we age, we tend to lose that capacity for doing without thinking - or even just being aware without thinking - especially in 'the West'.
